Who's this BLOG about? What a good question.

After many years in the Royal Air Force and a posting to RAF Coltishall Wally also created the Solarscope mobile disco's with gigs as far as Manchester. He was resident DJ at Scamps Nightclub in Norwich during the 70's and had a show on Hospital Radio Norwich.
Wally joined BBC Radio Norfolk when it began broadcasting on September 11th 1980 and has been there ever since.
He's Patron of the East Coast Truckers Childrens Charity and President of the Potter Heigham Country Fayre Fundraisers.
He rides a 1966 Lambretta 125 Special and spends a lot of time cruising on the Norfolk Broads.
He's an Ambassador for the Wherry Albion of the Norfolk Wherry Trust, a Friend of Hardley Windpump and a volunteer litter picker for his home community and a videographer for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

This Blog will keep you up to date on all these activities or you can go to his sister Blog to concentrate on the Norfolk Broads. All views and opinions that may be expressed are those of the author and not of the BBC.

Sorry I kept you waiting!

Early Show Monday 28th July.
I was talking about our boat trip on Sunday (yesterday) and the very strange sight on the river. Unfortunately the Show was so busy that I just couldn't fit it in. (OK so I forgot!)
We'd cruised up the Yare towards Norwich and after a short stay at Commisssioners Cut we moved up to the new moorings at Whitlingham. A bit of a gamble but we managed to grab one of only two spaces left.
Gordon Brown had been here only the day before but he would have enjoyed Sunday better. After our usual walk round the lake and Fudges demands to keep on swimming, we came back round to the Water Avtivities centre where thousands had come from all over the place to take part in the Dragon Boat racing. (sorry no pic - Sheri was annoyed that she'd forgotten to bring her new camera along. "Always something happening when I haven't got it with me !!!")
Pergolas, gazebo's and down right massive home marquee's housed their giant gas barbeques as they self-catered for their teams.
Result - one team won but we didn't find out which.
On the return journey we were rounding a bend in the river just off Ted Eliss's Wheatfen Trust when Sheri exclaimed "there's something in the river and it's not a lump of wood!"
Lo and behold - another sight that we'd never seen before. a mont jack deer was taking a dip and swimming across a wide stretch of the Yare. They can't be that bouyant because only the ears and nostrils were out of the water. Despite the fact that we had no camera with us I did grab my mobile and took the picture below. The quality isn't there but you can make it out. On the opposite side there is a bank of reeds and we wondered just how it would get out. It simply swam straight into them and disappeared! Something we may never see again.
