We're talking about the demise of VHS and with Blu Ray and downloads more frequent, the small independant video shops ar facing a tougher time. Sarah's been in business for 20 years and has a solid customer base because she gives value for money!
Tuesday and busy busy! Here's Postcode lottery is IP25 so first to meet Jan & Ken Godfrey at their bungalow. Remember the freak hailstorm they had at Carbrooke? (see Travelogue 2 months back). They're still drying out their home. Meanwhile they live in a caravan and awning on the front lawn. It's a long haul back to the land of normality. Then, to catch up with David Hatherly at Wayland community radio on the Swaffham Road just outside Ashill. The big switch on is 28th August but you'll be able to catch test transmissions earlier in that area. Lastly, (busy busy) just down the hill to the Recycle Centre. Household Waste Officer for Norfolk, Dan Jacobs comes to tell me all about the problems with wasps this year. Help them please by rinsing out your bottles and cans properly so the wasps can't home in on them. What? Water conservation? Mmmmm.
I LOVE my job. Apart from having an international set of correspondents early in the morning I then get to drive out into the countryside and meet interesting people and see interesting things. The, just round the corner, still by the river valley there's Gary Rossin, Project Director of SHARP - Sedgeford Historical & Archaeological Research Project. He's pictured with another barrowload of mussel shells! Just look at the dig and the young cows skeleton they were uncovering. Fascinating work. I love the 8th century coin they found from the era of Pippin The Short. Not so much your highness as your lowness!!
Thursday and I get to meet the new CEO of YMCA Norfolk, Tim Sweeting and we talk about turning the St.Giles building into 40 flats whilst leaving the facade intact. Completing in 2011 approx. Then it's off to the Wensum Valley Hotel and Golf Club. Owner Basil Todd is one of many people who believe that part of RAF Coltishall at least should be preserved to the memory of the historic airfield. Maybe something like a memorial (of sorts) may be on the cards !
&am on Friday and I'm off clubbin' ! Just take a peek at the new non-alcoholic 13-17 year olds disco within the Open complex which used to be Barclays Bank on Bank Plain Norwich. The venue also has a massive staged auditorium and a fantastic range of facilities for the upcoming generation. Pinning up the poster is Open Events Manager Rachael Murray. For the last postcode lottery of the week I'm despatched to NR20 to find something interesting. How about Floranova - a company that develops plant seeds and sells them wholesale across the world! Director Mark Leivers shows me the trial beds outside whilst just next to that, a purpose built display area showing how they're developing new flowers and vegetables to be grown on todays smaller patio areas.
