The Radio Car

As I've now had a number of curious enquiries (particularly from our on-line overseas listeners) about the Radio Car that I do live reports with into Breakfast With Bumfrey following my own Show in the mornings, here's a peek at what it's like.

Norfik Dew Diffrent!

Monday 1st September and one of my jobs with the Radio Car is to go to Wiveton where the Parish Council have put up some new signs on the approach to the lovely little North Norfolk
village. Take a look.

You Never Know Who's Behind You.

Driving out to report from Snetterton I was travelling along the A11 doing the mx - 70mph. An older type car shot past me and I just thought "what an idiot." What I didn't know though came home to me when I was approaching the turnoff. That same car had stopped with another vehicle on the hard shoulder. As I came past I realised that it was a policeman from the old car that was in the process of booking the driver of the other vehicle. The giveaway was the flashing blue lights hidden behind the radiator grill. I was going to say that I'd be more careful in the future but as I always stick to the speed limits I suppose I have nothing to worry about but, just remember that the car behind you might be older and not so well polished but it could also be the police!

Insurance Renewal Due?

Having got my notification through that my car insurance was nearly due I looked at the new increased price and said "******" So I did what any computer user would do nowadays and asked a web site that promised to find me the best price. Having given them all the details I was surprised to find that I could save myself a considerable amount of cash. Despite that though, you don't like to jump out of the fire into the frying pan and so I rang my insurers and told them what I learnt. They advised me to print out the quote and send it to them. A few days later their new quote came back matching the cheaper price! Result. I've now stayed with my existing insurer (they take care of the over 50's don't you know) but renewed at the lower price. WHY WHY WHY then, can't they just give me a competetive quote in the first place. Surely insurers keep an eye on the competition? What say you?

Unlicensed Drivers?

On the Show today the big talking point was about the proposal to have stricter checks on older drivers. Although right up to date with current legislation it quickly became clear through the callers that once you reach the age of seventy you have to reapply for your license and subsequently every three years after that. It appears to be down to the medical profession to decide if you're fit to drive or not. The basic test is eyesight - reading a number plate from a set distance. However, we did learn that there are some motorists who may not have gone through this procedure but still drive in their eighties! It's worth investigating further. I presume that those motorists haven't reapplied for their licence. There's certainly no expiry date on the card. So how would you know? It begs the question though. If drivers continue to motor past the age of seventy without any renewal, are they technically driving without a current licence? If so, then their insurance will be invalid too. We'll persue this tomorrow and I'll keep you posted!
