CPAD (Community Public Access Defibrillator)

Brundall Area Community First Responders invited me to cut the ribbon on the CPAD at Blofield United Football Club on Saturday. It's situated on the old Yarmouth Road in the village and will help when life is at risk from cardiac arrest. It's easy to use too! The voice incorporated gives step by step instructions when using it and one of the Brownies who came along showed that even a youngster can do it. Sorry the pictures can't be enlarged but thanks for sending them to me Christine!

World Bowls Final at Potters Hopton

A really exciting final this year which began with the entertainments team from Potters with a Burt Bacharach songbook. MC Richard had everyone doing the 'Takeaway' song including all the cations from Breakfast Show Producer Steve Martin! Then Andy Thomson and Justin Greenslade came out after a delay because of the tennis. At the end, Andy came out victorious after 17 years since last winning it!

Treasure Quest Sunday 2nd October 2011

As Navigator for Sunday we began the Quest at Hellington and the first clue took us to the control tower at Seething airstrip where there was an open day. The answer to the clue was an engine from a Liberator. The next clue had us thinking we were going to the wrong place but it turned out good as we pulled up outside the cottage owned by an ex-BBC employee. The horse held the next clue which took Becky to a tank show where she had to get into the turret to find the next clue. That led us to a ploughing competition at Silfield and after a frantic search the 'crawler' gave up the secret of the treasure. That was found at the top of a 12 metre high climbing frame at the scout camp at Eaton Vale. Although we missed winning by minutes, Becky did complete the challenge to climb up and get it during Extra Time. Well done Norfolk. Just a bit quicker next time.

Treasure Quest Sunday 8th May 2011

Another great Sunday as Navigator for mad-mad-mad Becky Betts. We covered some miles too from West Runton to Kelling Heath, Itteringham, Haveringland to Chapelfield and found the treasure with just TEN seconds to spare. Phew!

See many more pics of the Quest at the BBC Norfolk site.

World Indoor Bowls Final from Hopton

Sunday afternoons final between Alex Marshall and Paul Foster. Paul took the first set and then went on to win the £40,000 purse as well as the huge crystal trophy. His little boy was so excited as he ran across the rink to his daddy that he fell and burst into tears which raised a huge "Awwww" from the crowd. Not the most thrilling of finals but another successful event for Potters at Hopton.
Pictures in order. 1. New CEO of World Bowls and Tournament Director Richard Maddison. 2. Brett Arkley who borrowed a set of bowls from Greg Harlow and beat Mervyn King. Then in the quarter finals he was drawn against Greg! 3. TV crew with the finalists. 4. Paul raises up the trophy. 5. Joined by the family. 6. Once more for the crowd.

The Christmas Trees of Norfolk

THE TALLEST

Yes, our quest for the unusual Christmas trees began at the Forum where Norfolks tallest tree is situated right outside the studio. Lit by 12,000 LED's and standing 23 metres tall.
THE MOST DECORATED

Our first visit was to Rick & Carol at Old Catton. Not only is the tree so full of baubles and birds that you couldn't get another one on - the room itself is full of Santa's, reindeer and yuletide items that I couldn't get them all in the picture. No, Carol is to the side of the shot - she still had her dressing gown on!

THE OLDEST TREE
I visit Blakeney Quay where Rozamund Wotton made me welcome. I the hall, what could be the oldest Christmas tree in Norfolk. Made in 1918 it's seen some times. Although not large as such it has some interesting old ornaments and at first will have been lit by candles. Can you remember attaching clip holders to the tree which held tiny twisted candles like you get on birthday cakes. Wouldn't be allowed today.

THE SADDEST TREE
We were alerted to a letter in the Press about the community tree in Stalham. Described as a "Christmas TWIG" it is a full tree fastened to the bike rack and lit by one rope light. Chairman of Stalham Committee responsible for putting it up, Ian Mee (pictured) said they were constrained by budget and help from members of the comminity. If the person who wrote to the Press would like to contact him he'd be pleased for some extra help!

Treasure Quest Sunday 17th October 2010

YES - we found the treasure. Left to right through the five clues Becky gets the first at B&Q Norwich where people are gathering to start their own treasure hunt. Next, a wild goose chase to Surlingham Ferry, then a second village sign in a hedgerow before we strike lucky by the duck pond. On to Lanley Abbey where the spiral staircase leads us to clue four. Along the road it's a stop at Rockland Staithe where the representative ribs of a wherry are on the green before we end up finding the treasure at the One Centre on Bank Plain in Norwich and a bowl full of runny chocolate. Becky's just died and gone to heaven!

Stand In Nanette

Thanks to Gary who sent this photo of Nanette who stood in for me this week. For those who were guessing what she looked like - were you right?

HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY RADIO NORFOLK

We raided David Whitely's show this morning (Saturday) to mark BBC Radio Norfolks 30th birthday - September 11th 1980. A special cake and bucks fizz were served to some of the old timers who were there at the start of broadcasting. Below try your hand at guessing who's who. The names (NOT in order) are Bob Ledwidge, Jill Bennett, Wally Webb, Phil Johnson, Ian Masters, David Clayton, Sylvie Waller.

TARQUIN MAKES SHOCK ANNOUNCEMENT

To everyones amazement this morning, Tarquin announced that he's giving up his job outside the door of the virtual cafe to become an actor. He starts his two weeks notice with immediate effect and leaves his post Friday 10th September. As yet there are no volunteers to take his place!

Treasure Quest 8th August

Alright, the Quest Master gave us the runaround and here's some memorable moments. Pic 1 even before we find clue two Becky feels the3 need! Can't resist a portaloo. Pic 2 The Dalek has the clue despite the denial. Exterminate! Pic 3 Tom Blofeld creator of Bewilderwood hold clue three and after a stop at the Bure Valley Railway in Aylsham we find clue 4 in a shop on Red Lion Street. Finally - and out of time - we reach Kettlestone where Becky officially opens their Fayre and finds the treasure in the phone box after cutting the ribbon.
