Almost Spring - Why Not Buy A Boat?
Ever felt the need to break away from the traditional garden setting and let the world pass you by? Boating is the perfect way to escape AND relax. Unlike a caravan, with a boat even the journey becomes part of the adventure and with so many free 24 hour moorings around the Norfolk Broads it needn't cost you a fortune. Simply take the food and drink that you would have consumed at home with you adding further to your savings. Hence, a holiday afloat can be just the ticket for your relaxation and your pocket. There are some costs to bear in mind though. The annual boat toll to the Broads Authority. You're also advised to take out insurance and you'll need somewhere to keep your pride and joy moored. However, when you consider that you've a ready made bolt hole whenever you want it, the overall costs can work out very reasonable over a year. Yes, even cruising in winter can be enjoyable. THINK ABOUT IT! If you're seriously considering this lifestyle option, why not watch the video and get in touch with our dedicated team who'll do everything they can to find the boat of your dreams. Just watch and enjoy!
Black Sail on the Wherry Albion
After her refurbishment, the Wherry Albion took to the water again and I was one of the privileged few to be aboard as we sailed from Horning to Ludham. The Norfolk Wherry Trust needs our constant support to maintain one of only two black-sailed wherries left. You can charter her yourself or e-mail at
Spring on the Broads
Here's just a few glimpses of our Broads break this last week. We didn't really go far but had a relaxing time walking the dog! With no leaves on the trees the views are wider and some things are visible that will disappear soon as brown turn to green. Already daffodils and snowdrops abound but there's still the aftermath of last years growth. I hope you enjoy the view!
Honing and Briggate and all that history!
As I document every holiday we have around the Broads, I thought you might like to look at the old locks on the derelict North Walsham and Dilham canal. Cut from the River Ant at the start of the 19th century and superceded by the railway which was later cut by Dr.Beeching and the fate of the Mill at Briggate. Let me know what you think. I've tried to be as accurate as possible. In fact, talking about it on the Show prompted Sheila to send me a locally produced book about the railways' history and it's fascinating. You may have noticed nationally that the BBC is focussing on this subject during October. So this is just a little extra. Reminder my other Blog may be of interest too! http://www.norfolk-broads.blogspot.com/
