East Coast Truckers Childrens Convoy 2011

Wally has been Patron of the East Coast Truckers Childrens Charity since it became official many years ago although his involvement stretches back to the beginning over 25 years ago. It always takes place of the August Bank holiday Sunday starting at 10am travelling to Pleasurewood Hills near Lowestoft for a fun day and then to Great Yarmouth seafront at 6p before returning to Norwich via the A47. People take their holidays to be there to wave them though. Layby's and bridges all packed with people to the delight of the children.
Here's just a small selection of pics at the start of the convoy from County Hall. As you can see, last minute polishing of the trucks, a driver briefing and excited children before the off. The Police bikes were there as usual  The Lord Mayor and Sheriff, numerous other dignitaries including the local MP's come to wave them off.

East Coast Truckers Childrens Christmas Party

Apart from the annual massive Childrens Convoy on August Bank Holiday, the ECT Childrens Charity treats youngsters to all kinds of events. The annual panto, a trip to the circus and this, the Christmas party which was held at Hellesdon High School this year. The characters from Star Wars were on hand to keep order as Santa Claus arrived. Every child gets a special Christmas present as well as a slap up buffet and extra entertainment. Their good works go largely unmentioned by the media but every year the large team of volunteers ensure that every event goes off smoothly. Well done the ECTC.

East Coast Truckers Childrens Convoy 2010 the pictures

1. Arriving at Pleasurewood Hills where the characters from Star Wars were waiting for a photocall with the youngsters. 2. Our driver in truck No.4 - Smiler! 3. Ready for the off with the police motorcycles and 100 trucks! 4. Left Glenn Johnson who started it all 25 years ago and right, Rob Billman who has now taken over. Guess what they're laughing at!
Blog Video should be posted later this week.

East Coast Truckers Charity Childrens Christmas Party

This years Party for the Children hosted by the East Coast Truckers. As usual they laid on a special afternoon of fun and entertainment thanks to their all-year-round fundraising efforts. It's not just the annual convoy that takes up their time and thanks were also given to those who'd made a special contribution through the year by way of a presentation after the children had all gone home.

Meanwhile, thanks everyone for the birthday cards for Sheri. She writes a monthly article for the charities magazine which is sent out to all the Friends of ECTC.

Too many to mention here but this pic was taken when the truckers surprised her at the Marina Centre Saturday night. Those in the know may recognise the little fairy ! They even gave her a gluten free cake. Pity about the candles though. Because of a slight delay in proceedings they'd almost burnt completely down but there was still a big cheer when she blew them out.

ECTC Childrens Convoy 2008

After a damp start the convoy left County Hall Norwich this morning as planned at 10am and despite the weather many people turned out to wave them on their way. By the afternoon the weather had brightened at Pleasurewood Hills so we hope that they all had a great day out. I'm sure they did.

Sunday 17th August POTTER HEIGHAM COUNTRY FAYRE

It's always a compliment to be invited back after opening an event such as this and it's now our fourth year at this lovely Country Fayre.
We love the fact that it's more of your traditional occasion with straw bales round the arena, old tractors, vintage cars and the real feel of the community spirit.
Every year we've arrived in the arena by a different mode of transport. Last year it was a stretched limo but this year it was a tractor and trailer. Fortunately the manure was already spread so as you can see I made myself at home on the bench in my country squires outfit!

Here's some of our friends from The East Coast Truckers fund raising again. The big Convoy is next Sunday don't forget.
Also wee represented were members of the NICE Society who bring along their lovingly restored engines to chug away to the delight of the crowd old and young.
Here I am on one of the vintage tractors in the line-up. I can remember working on a farm in my school holidays and always trying to get behind the wheel of one
of these. Never did get the chance so you can't blame me for

taking advantage now although I didn't get her started.

Just behind me was an old horseless carriage which had been partly restored and just look at the motorbike on show. Right next to the Hillman Imp Police car. Can't be many of them around now. Imagine if they were still in use! Included in the pics below are the charity auction which raised over £700 and the dog racing which culminated in the handlers final when the humans got to run down the course. Question is, was the girl in the lead pushed or did she trip? A great afternoon supported by a fine break in the weather netting around £3,500 for the MIDAS Charity who'll be spreading it over a number of good causes. If you came along thanks for your support and well done everyone involved on a magnificent show.
