Potter Heigham Country Fayre 2011

At last, after two years of showers the sun smiled down on the village hall field for this years Country Fayre at Potter Heigham. Crowds gathered around the arena. Ever year I've made my entrance on or in a different kind of transport from Evil Kneivils limo to my Lambretta. This year I had to drive a monster tractor between the bollards at the car park into the arena. Sheri chose her own transport, this event winning VW trike!

Robbie the shire horse was dressed up to the nines, the trike line-up was the biggest yet - they love coming here. The NICE society were out in force.

Winner for the best engine was Mr.Willets restored masterpiece. For vintage vehicles this restored caravan from the thirties started life on a holiday park in St.Osyth. As ever though, the attraction of the day was the sheep racing with some heavy betting on the Tote this year! The money raised today will be given to local charities at the village hall night of entertainment next March.

Easter Egg Scooter Run Sunday 17th April 2011

The weather was great and the turnout was better. 297 scooters from Norfolk & Suffolk turned out for the ride through Norwich and on to the Norfolk & Norwich University hospital. Every one had donated an Easter Egg which were delivered to the children. Pic 1 at the Prince Of Denamrk PH before the off. 2. Some of the original 'boys'. 3. Trolleys full of eggs at the hospital. 4. The most unusual scoot - exterminate !!

Potter Heigham Country Fayre 2010

Here's a few snapshots of this years fete. Much bigger field with more parking and weather that, although cloudy, provided some sunny interludes before the wind turned cooler late afternoon. Pic1. The winners of the NICE Society display, George Willetts collection.. Pic 2 best bike in show a Yamaha (and I thought they made organs!) Pic 3. For the cars, a Morris 10/6. Pic 4. We arrive in style led by Judy and Gordon (can you tell which is which?) Pic 5. Robbie the horse who's a big attraction each year. Pic 6. Some of the other cars on show. We'll have the results of the fundraising posted here in a day or two. Thanks to Paul and all the team for their efforts today. By the way, best trade stand went to the East Coast Truckers. Don't forget the big 25th convoy is in a fortnight.

Pheonix Medeival Pageant

The Phoenix Medieval Pageant was organised by Paulene & John Rotman for the "Lifeline 4 Chernobyl" charity over the weekend 22/23 August. They kindly inviyed me to open the event on the Saturday and here's some of the participants who brought it all to life! Here's organisers John & Paulene with Sheri and I.

Potter Heigham Country Fayre Sun 16th August

A great privilege to be asked to open this event yet again and I've always promised to come on Lamby if the weather was fair. However, in previous years there's always been the threat of a shower so she stayed at home. This year - as you can see - a glorious day and I opened the Fayre sitting on the old girl. The crowds really turned out and I was told that all the surrounding roads were parked up too. Pic 3 shows the dog racing course but as they were so fast it was hard to snap the rade in full flight. Some people made a packet on the Tote. The auction did well too and thanks to local MP Norman Lamb who attended the event, his donation of a tour of the Houses of Parliament and tea on the terrace with him, we added a further £120. As the day wound down Sheri tried to run off with a donkey but the donkey had other ideas. I told her, next time try running off with a milkman!

Sunday 17th August POTTER HEIGHAM COUNTRY FAYRE

It's always a compliment to be invited back after opening an event such as this and it's now our fourth year at this lovely Country Fayre.
We love the fact that it's more of your traditional occasion with straw bales round the arena, old tractors, vintage cars and the real feel of the community spirit.
Every year we've arrived in the arena by a different mode of transport. Last year it was a stretched limo but this year it was a tractor and trailer. Fortunately the manure was already spread so as you can see I made myself at home on the bench in my country squires outfit!

Here's some of our friends from The East Coast Truckers fund raising again. The big Convoy is next Sunday don't forget.
Also wee represented were members of the NICE Society who bring along their lovingly restored engines to chug away to the delight of the crowd old and young.
Here I am on one of the vintage tractors in the line-up. I can remember working on a farm in my school holidays and always trying to get behind the wheel of one
of these. Never did get the chance so you can't blame me for

taking advantage now although I didn't get her started.

Just behind me was an old horseless carriage which had been partly restored and just look at the motorbike on show. Right next to the Hillman Imp Police car. Can't be many of them around now. Imagine if they were still in use! Included in the pics below are the charity auction which raised over £700 and the dog racing which culminated in the handlers final when the humans got to run down the course. Question is, was the girl in the lead pushed or did she trip? A great afternoon supported by a fine break in the weather netting around £3,500 for the MIDAS Charity who'll be spreading it over a number of good causes. If you came along thanks for your support and well done everyone involved on a magnificent show.

Snettisham Fete Saturday 26th July

Snettisham Fete 2008
Weren't we blessed with fine weather! Although the forecast had been for odd showers we managed to dodge them. Here's a selection of pics that Sheri took. Pictured above - the magnificent setting at Snettisham with the church up the hill overlooking all the goings on! The star turn was Trix N Stix - the group of young drummers who played a whole variety of drums in sync and then picked up pots, pans, a dustbin lid and a pice of stainless chimney flu pipe and carried on playing them instead! They're a keen bunch and if you know of an event where they can play their details are at the end of this article.
Also pictured, Andy & Nettie from Northampton, early morning listeners to my regional stint and members of the e-mail mobsters. Great to meet up with them again and many other listeners (old and new) who came and said hello. Also pictured, the two proud boys supporting their sister who won the baby competition although we say well done to all the Mums (they always have a lot of new kids in Snettisham - there's obviously something in the water!) and the little fairy who beat off stiff competition to be our fancy dresser of the day. Talking about dressing fancy, check out the technique of the lad who had to mummify his mate with the toilet roll. (picture above) This is always a favourite although this year we tried a new one. Bowling (with balloons filled with water). In previous years we've made contestants throw them to their partners until they burst. This year - feeling compassionate - we got them to roll their balls as far as they could without them bursting. The youngsters showed the adults how to do it once again.
For anyone interested in contacting Trix & Stix you should contact Ronnie Prudence 01263 861437 or Jayne Solberg 01263 861259. The drumming group are based at Hindolveston. Tell them I sent you!
